Dear Santa,

Thank you for all of the wishes you generously granted in 2008.  With the help of many generous donors, creative program development, successful grant writing, financial planning, and a lot of hard work, this was another banner year for the Sedona Community Center!

SCC was able to start up a new Meals on Wheels sub-station in the Village of Oak Creek (making us better able to serve the growing senior hunger problem in VOC).  We also completed the second phase of the SCC parking lot with grading, paving, lighting and signage.

In response to unprecedented need, we increased the number of daily home delivered meals served from 45 to over 70.  SCC has also increased the activities and usage of the Center, and added some amazing new staff!

Our wish list for the season and for 2009 is as follows:

  1. An Endowment (This will allow our service programs, including Meals on Wheels, Community Lunch, the Brown Breakfast Bag Club, Telecare and Senior/Disabled Transportation, can continue to be provided without a waiting list and maintained on a donation-only basis.)
  2. To have more people participate in our Tax Credit Incentive Program so that our services are not jeopardized in times of economic uncertainty (as we are experiencing now)
  3. Effective outreach so that we are providing service for all in-need who could and should be supported by the Center’s social service programs.
  4. Kitchen renovation funds and adding a walk-in refrigerator/freezer
  5. A Board Member from the world of finance (banker, investment advisor, etc)
  6. More members of all ages – it takes the involvement and commitment of everyone to build a true community center and, in so doing, to care for our seniors
  7. The aforementioned Endowment
  8. A successful integration of the Community for All Ages philosophy throughout Sedona and the successful development of Project VOICE
  9. To continue to be able to work in such a fabulous center, in a singularly beautiful town, in the midst of a caring and compassionate community filled with remarkable friends
  10. An E-Bay Angel to list and sell items donated to us
  11. More volunteers to care for area seniors in a variety of capacities
  12. The clearing out and organizing of our basement and storage areas
  13. That much-needed Endowment
  14. More folks aware of our Paver Fundraiser so we can raise the money to address the final phase of our parking lot.  Completing our driveway will mean that our entire facility is compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.  (To say nothing of adding twenty additional much-needed parking spaces)
  15. A Board Member with expertise in marketing
  16. Continued growth of our award-winning Restaurant Partner program
  17. A new, safe and comfortable 21-person van that will serve not only the needs of current ridership but the clients of the soon-to-open Sunrise Center for Adults and our increasing Meals on Wheels delivery routes.
  18. To have peace, harmony and understanding sweep the world
  19. Might we hope for an Endowment?

Santa, we know you will do your best with this list, and we will be more than grateful for all you bring in the upcoming year.

We would also like to wish all the readers in the Verde Valley a safe and joyous holiday season and a new year filled with energy and prosperity of health, relationships and quality of life.

SCC’s social services include home-delivered Meals on Wheels delivered by a devoted fleet of volunteer drivers. In addition to food, these folks deliver compassion and respect.

Our Community Lunch is served at the center Monday through Friday at noon.  This program is made possible by our generous kitchen staff, our civic-minded Restaurant Partners and is served by volunteers.

Our Transportation program gives senior adults “door-to-door” service to the store, bank and doctor Monday through Friday between 9 and 2.  Our professional drivers are the most kind and caring in the business.

Our Telecare program provides daily telephone calls to individuals in need of a wellness check seven days a week.  This vital service is available free-of-charge to all Sedona-area residents and is provided by concerned volunteers.

For more information, to volunteer or to make reservations for our classes, events or social services, call 282-2834.  We are located at the corner of Harmony Drive and Melody Lane in West Sedona.
